Perseverance

          I have many goals that I wish to accomplish in my life, some are big, but most are small. If I want to accomplish the goals I have, not only will I need to be focused and determined, but I must work as hard as I can to achieve those goals. To accomplish a goal, you must have a a plan, because a goal without a plan is just a wish, and most of the time, wishes don't come true.

          One of my main goals in life is to become a captain. I am a seventeen year old kid still in school  so this goal might seem out of reach, but I wont take my sights off it. I will have to work as hard as I can, and conceive as much knowledge as possible if i want this to be a reality in the future. I made a plan about two years ago as to how I am going to become a captain.

          The first step I chose to make, to become a captain, was getting a job on the water. As of four months ago I have been working at a shipyard learning a lot about boats. I already know I'm on the right path to succeed. The next step on my list is to begin classes for my beginner level Captains License. No matter who you are, or where you come from, everyone must begin with their beginner license, its up to you to advance further from that, which I plan to do. My next step on my list is to graduate high school and join the Navy. To become a captain you are required to complete an additional four years of education past high school, military is considered additional education.

          With enough hard work and determination, anyone can achieve their goals. All you need is a simple plan of how you will achieve those goals. If things become difficult and hold you back from your goal, don't change your decision...change your direction.

My top three favorite Bands

1. The smiths

One of my all time favorite bands is The Smiths. The reason I like their music is because I am a huge fan of Morrissey. Also, I often relate their music to some good times in my life. Not only is their music famous and absolutely incredible sounding, but it is very deep and emotional.




2. Sublime

Another band I absolutely love and admire is Sublime. Sublime was the first band I truly loved listening to. I was introduced to them when my brother introduced me to their drummer, Bud Gaugh. I was very young, and I didn't start listening to them until a few years later. But ever since, they have been on the top of my list.




3. Violent Femmes

I have been a fan of the Violent Femmes since I first went to one of their concerts in Rhode Island. My dad brought me to the show, and i wasn't too familiar with  them. Since that show I have been all over their music and I love reading about the bands history. They played a show at my local venue just last week and I had the best time ever.

          I played Keyboard Revolution, Desert Typing Racer, and Trick or Type. My favorite game to play was Desert Typing Racer because it had speed, action and it wasn't as boring as the other two.

Being Charitable

                                                       Feed The Children
          Feed the Children is an organization that focuses on providing free cloths, food, and other basic needs to children across the world. This organization also provides medical necessities to these children. Not only does this charity provide for children, but they help families, shelters, and their partner organizations. Feed the Children works to make long-term improvements for children and their families in poor or developing countries. Through education and community development programs, this charity believes in making a change. The organization combines clean water and sanitation projects to help their communities. They also operate a disaster relief program, where they provide emergency assistance to victims of natural and man-made disasters. 

          This organization is very important because it focuses mainly on the youth, and i believe every new generation becomes stronger. It is so sad and frustrating how many people and children are suffering from hunger. We take all our meals and snacks for granted. None of us wake up in the morning thinking of how, or when we'll get our next meal. We know everyday and night that we will have some sort of food to eat, but people in other countries across the world battle for their lives against hunger everyday.

          If i had money to donate, i would chose this organization. I stongly belive in this charity and feel it is one of the most important. There are children dieing becasue they dont get food, starvation should not be a cause of death for children, and it needs to be stopped. I feel almst guilty knowing that this is happening around the world. We are all stuck in our own little bubble, and we need to start caring for and helping out the world. 

Bucket List

1.  Graduate from the Navy: I plan on going into the navy when I'm out of high school, and I would feel very accomplished if I made it through.

2. Travel to Tahiti: I have always wanted to travel to Tahiti, and before I die, I really want to go. The island is so awesome, the water is warm, the air is hot, and the sand is white.                              

3. Base Jump: I have always wanted to go skydiving, but I have found way more badass things involving parachutes. Skydiving seems cool, but I really want to base jump before I'm dead. Base jumping his jumping off anything thats not a plane, such as cliffs, and buildings.

4. Fly a plane: I have always been in love with flying in small aircrafts, like helicopters and small person planes. One of my dreams in life, which is a top bucket list item of mine, is being able to fly one.

5. Captain Boat to Cabo: The ocean has always been a huge part of my life, and when I'm older I plan on being a private captain. My one goal is to captain a boat down to Cabo.

My favorite Hobby

          I have many hobbies and I enjoy doing many activities, but my absolute favorite hobby is spearfishing. I have been spearfishing for about 5 years now and in my opinion, its the best thing in the world. Spearfishing is better in the summer because the water is warmer and the fish are more abundant. In the summer, we have anywhere for yellowtail to very big tuna we hunt. In the winter is when we go for the white sea bass, the ghost of the sea. My absolute favorite fish to hunt is California yellowtail. This fish live under floating kelp paddies, in the local shores, and you can also find them just cruising in schools. Yellows are pure muscle and they put up a tough fight, they're also very tasty. I love spearfishing, and to me the best part about is is the fact tat not many people do it. The reason I love spearing so much is because I love being in the ocean. I love being in the water, and i feel like i'm in a whole new world when i'm below the surface. I have my happiest moments while diving.

Jake Luhrs

I’m seventeen years old and I have lived in newport beach for my whole life. I live with my dad in west newport, and my mom lives in Corona Del Mar. I have been surfing since I was very young, and I learned how to surf at my home break at River Jetties. I have been surfing there ever since. I used to go to newport harbor high school, but now i’m at back bay. I love music, I enjoy listening to punk and rock, my favorite band is The Smiths.

I grew up on the water and all my hobbies and interests revolve around the ocean. I love to surf, fish, dive, and spearfish. I also love riding motocross. When I was younger, I completly restored a boat by myself, I then sold it to buy my car. I work at Basine Marine shipyard, and my goal when i'm older is to be a captain. I plan on joining the navy when i am out of high school.
